Software Engineer (Front Office)

Provn are proud to be partnered with a leading multi-strategy investment firm as they look to hire a Software Engineer to join their Front Office technology team in Glasgow. Our client is a highly successful investment firm with a growing global presence and a strong commitment to technology as a key driver of business performance. As part of a significant investment in their engineering function, they are expanding their Front Office technology team in Glasgow and are looking for an experienced software engineer to help build and enhance business-critical systems used across the trading environment. This is a highly visible role within a collaborative and fast-paced team, offering the opportunity to work closely with traders, portfolio managers, and other front office stakeholders. You'll be involved in developing scalable, high-performance applications that directly support investment and trading activities, while gaining exposure to a modern technology stack and a broad range of business challenges. The team values strong engineering fundamentals, pragmatic problem-solving, and a willingness to learn. While the role is primarily backend-focused, there is scope to work across the full stack and broaden your technical experience over time.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain software solutions supporting front office investment and trading activities
• Work closely with traders, portfolio managers, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver impactful solutions
• Build scalable backend services using modern Java and Spring Boot technologies
• Collaborate with engineering teams across multiple regions to deliver robust and reliable systems
• Support integrations with internal platforms, market data providers, and external counterparties
• Participate in system design discussions and contribute to technical decision-making
• Help drive engineering best practices across development, testing, deployment, and monitoring

Role Requirements

• Commercial experience developing enterprise software applications
• Experience within financial services, investment management, hedge funds, or capital markets
• Strong backend engineering skills, ideally with Java, Spring Boot, and Python
• Experience working with modern software engineering practices and distributed systems
• Solid understanding of object-oriented programming, software design principles, and system architecture
• Experience working with SQL and relational databases
• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent commercial experience
• Willing and able to work onsite in Glasgow

Preferred Experience

• Exposure to any stage of the trading lifecycle
• Experience with Python development
• Knowledge of React and TypeScript
• Familiarity with AWS and cloud-native technologies
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code and modern DevOps practices
