Company Description Structural Design Studio Ltd (SDS) is a design-led Structural and Civil Engineering consultancy based in London, founded in 2017 by directors Tim Botfield, Sarah Wadley and Adam Atkinson. The practice focuses on delivering creative yet practical engineering solutions with a hands-on, responsive approach. As a young, modern, and adaptable practice, the team works across a wide range of projects, from large new-build developments and complex refurbishments to smaller domestic loft conversions, rear extensions, and building surveys. Role Description This is a full-time hybrid Structural Engineer role based in London, with flexible working day and work from home optional on Fridays. The Structural Engineer will work on design lead projects in a range of sectors including new-build and refurbishment projects, scale and domestic residential, commercial, education and infrastructure. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing and checking calculations, producing structural drawings and details using CAD tools, and coordinating designs with architects, civil engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders. The role involves attending site visits and inspections, preparing reports and specifications, and supporting project delivery from concept through to construction. The successful candidate will be expected to manage workload efficiently, contribute to innovative yet practical solutions, and ensure designs comply with relevant standards and regulations. Chartered, near chartered and working towards all welcome to apply. Strong competence in structural engineering fundamentals, including Structural Engineering and Structural Analysis. Applied experience in Civil Engineering for building and infrastructure projects. Proficiency in performing detailed engineering Calculations for a variety of structural materials and systems. Relevant engineering degree (e.g., civil or structural engineering) and progress toward professional accreditation (e.g., ICE or IStructE) is desirable. Knowledge of UK building codes, standards, and construction practices. Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and present technical information clearly.
