Senior Specialist Speech & Language Therapist Location: York Salary: £39,959 - £56,515 DOE per annum Hours: 22.5 hours per week Recruitment is prioritised at Band 7 level however, applications from suitably qualified and dysphagia-trained Band 6 clinicians will also be considered. MAIN PURPOSE: To work as part of a multi/interdisciplinary team providing speech and language therapy input within the Brainkind neurobehavioral model to clients with acquired brain injury in liaison with internal and external professionals, relevant social networks, and People We Support. MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Clinical / Professional Practice • Work as an autonomous clinical professional in a specialist area. • To work within the limits of own competence and area of responsibility and accountability, seeking help and advice where needed. • Work with a range of people we support with complex: physical, mental, emotional health needs and/or challenging behaviours social care models deteriorating abilities. • Use evidence-based practice, person centred principles and clinical reasoning to undertake comprehensive assessments, considering environment, context, social networks and future plans, of People We Support in order to formulate appropriate: rehabilitation goals, care plans, communication therapy programmes, referrals, communication partner training • Evaluate service user progress and make alterations as required. • Knowledge and experience of the neurobehavioral approach to brain injury, demonstrating knowledge of current research findings, and best practice in the field. • Overcome barriers in communication to actively engage people we support in assessment, rehabilitation, and discharge planning to gain valid informed consent. Where necessary, work within a legal framework with people we support who lack capacity to consent to treatment. • To provide easily accessible information about people we support communication abilities and support needs, providing training to others with supervision. • To support the people we support's ability to communicate their consent around sharing information with family, carers, and other stakeholders, respecting everyone’s right to confidentiality. • Identifying, assessing, and managing complex dysphagia presentations, including developing and delivering appropriate dysphagia rehabilitation support, and providing training to others. • Write and verbally present reports, care and rehab plans which reflect people we support’ needs, impact on functioning and summarise findings, providing recommendations and referral when appropriate. • To maintain and produce accurate, professional, and up-to-date documentation, ensuring effective reporting is complete and consistent with legal and organisational standards. ABOUT YOU: * Degree in Speech and Language Therapy * Minimum of 2 years’ experience (Band 6) and a minimum of 4 years' experience (Band 7) * Dyshagia qualification and experience in management of dysphagia * Registered with the HCPC * Knowledge and experience of speech and language therapy outcome measures * Knowledge and experience of models of practice and assessment tools relevant to discipline. * Knowledge and experience of evidence-based practice and how to apply to clinical setting. * Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance. * Experience of working in an interdisciplinary team. * Ability to build effective team relationships. * Clear, effective verbal and written communication skills Rewards You can look forward to excellent benefits, including handy discounts on many brands and services. * A competitive salary of £39,959 - £56,515 DOE per annum * 38 days annual leave (inclusive of bank holidays) (pro rata) * Buy and sell up to 5 days annual leave. * Health Cash Plan * Access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) * Excellent training and support * Group life assurance. * Eye voucher scheme * Free parking * Company Pension * Long Service and Staff Awards We also put a big focus on employee wellbeing and support.
