Job Description

Java Developer - Chester, UK

Location: Chester, UK

Full-Time Role with Ascendion

🏢 Hybrid – 3 days per week on-site

We are looking for an experienced Java Developer to join a banking technology team, working on the development, modernisation and optimisation of enterprise applications.

The ideal candidate will have strong Java and Spring Boot experience, along with hands-on expertise in JVM tuning and application restructuring.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain enterprise applications using Java and Spring Boot
Restructure and modernise existing applications to improve performance, scalability and maintainability
Perform JVM tuning and performance optimisation
Analyse application performance and identify bottlenecks
Design and implement robust, production-quality solutions
Work closely with engineering and technology teams to deliver application improvements
Support troubleshooting and resolution of complex production issues

Key Requirements:

Strong Java development experience
Excellent Spring Boot experience
Hands-on experience with JVM tuning and performance optimisation
Proven experience with application restructuring / modernisation
Strong understanding of application architecture and software engineering principles
Experience working with large-scale, production applications
Banking or financial services experience is highly desirable
