Laboratory Shift Team Leader

Rotating shift pattern - 4 on (2 days, 2 nights), 4 off


South Yorkshire (commutable from Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster and surrounding areas)


Salary - £35,000 - £42,000 (Including shift allowance)

SRG is working with a leading manufacturer of speciality metals, alloys and materials. Based in the South Yorkshire area, a vacancy has come up for a member of their analytical laboratory team. This would include a shift pattern working 4 days on, 4 days off, two days and two nights. This would suit someone with a strong background in metals and physical property testing who has demonstrated ability to lead more junior chemists. Applications welcome from a range of chemical manufacturing industries although a specific metallurgy background would be preferred.

Role Description

  • Leading and developing a team of shift analysts, ensuring testing and analysis activities are completed accurately and within agreed deadlines.

  • Managing laboratory operations during shifts, including handovers, out-of-hours support, and deputising for the Chief Chemist when required.

  • Maintaining compliance with ISO standards, quality procedures, and health, safety and environmental requirements, including inspections and reporting.

  • Delivering training, performance management and competency development for direct reports, ensuring training records and skills matrices remain up to date.

  • Monitoring laboratory performance through KPI reporting, customer complaint investigations, housekeeping standards and efficient consumables management.


Requirements

  • Proven track record of mentoring more junior chemists in a laboratory setting

  • Preferably a degree in chemistry although equivalent industry experience would be considered

  • Experience with sample preparation for metals and materials
  • Experience using equipment like XRF and ICP-OES would be beneficial

  • Ability to travel or relocate to the South Yorkshire area

  • Full right to work in the UK
