Senior software EngineerLocation: This is a Hybrid working role. This is an opportunity to play a key role in the development and sustainment of safety-critical, real-time Air Traffic Control systems.As part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team, you will be responsible for delivering complex software solutions across the full software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis and system design through to implementation, integration, testing, deployment and operational support. You will work across multiple applications and technical domains, applying your expertise to solve challenging engineering problems and drive successful project outcomes.You will contribute technical leadership within project teams, influence engineering approaches and design decisions, and collaborate closely with customers, stakeholders and engineering disciplines to ensure the delivery of robust, high-quality software solutions.While knowledge of Air Traffic Management systems would be advantageous, it is not a prerequisite for the role as we recognise that strong software engineering skills are transferable. Successful candidates will receive domain-specific training and support to build their understanding of Air Traffic Management systems and operational practices.Knowledge and ExperienceWe are interested in candidates who can demonstrate significant experience in several of the following areas:Strong software development experience using Ada (83/95), C++, C or similar engineering-focused languagesSoftware design, development and integration within Linux or Unix style environmentsScripting and automation using technologies such as Python, Shell or PerlNetworked and distributed systems, including TCP/IP-based communicationsRequirements analysis, software design, implementation, integration, verification and maintenanceExperience delivering software within safety-critical, mission-critical or high-integrity environmentsConfiguration management, change management and release processesExperience working within structured development lifecycles, including Waterfall and V-Model approachesTypical ResponsibilitiesInvestigation and resolution of complex software and system issuesDefine, develop and maintain software requirements and technical baselinesContribute to software architecture and design decisions across multiple applications and projectsDevelop and implement robust software solutions that meet customer and business requirementsProvide technical leadership and guidance to engineering teamsIdentify, assess and manage technical risks, opportunities and dependenciesSupport project planning, estimation and delivery activitiesWork collaboratively with Systems Engineering, Formal Test, Cyber, DevOps and Programme Management teamsEngage with customers, suppliers and other stakeholders to support delivery objectivesReview engineering deliverables and ensure compliance with applicable standards, processes and best practicesProduce and review technical documentation, design artefacts and engineering reportsSupport operational deployments and customer acceptance activities as requiredQualifications and AttributesStrong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to develop innovative solutions to complex technical challengesExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to influence technical direction and support engineering decision-makingExperience working across multiple projects or technical domains simultaneouslyAbility to build effective working relationships with customers, stakeholders and engineering teamsDegree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experienceAppointment is subject to the successful candidate holding, or being eligible to obtain, UK Security Check (SC) clearance.What we do for you:At Leidos we are PASSIONATE about customer success, UNITED as a team and INSPIRED to make a difference.
