Mechanical Design Engineer TheOpportunity: Working within the existing design team of this quality British designed and manufactured product, the Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the adaption of existing designs on a really broad product range which is manufactured on site. In addition to your responsibilities as a Mechanical Design Engineer , you will work closely with the wider R&D team making recommendations for process improvements. The Role: Product design and development Accountable for design updates of existing products from initial concept through to manufacture, ensuring designs meet customer, technical, functional, quality and cost requirements Design for manufacture Ensure products are designed for efficient, repeatable and cost effective manufacture and assembly Cross-functional collaboration Work closely with new product development teams, Production Engineering, Quality, Purchasing and Marketing to ensure successful product design implementation Project support and delivery Accountable for being the technical support for R&D initiative projects, ensuring that project deadlines are met, relevant stakeholders are involved and project progress is reported Design risk management Identify, assess and mitigate design risks throughout existing product design updates Engineering standards Ensure designs comply with engineering standards, legislation and company procedures, liaising with the new product development stakeholders Continuous improvement Provide design support for manufacturing departments within the business for optimisation, continuous improvement and cost reduction projects Preferred Skills: 5 years experience in a sheet metal or manufacturing business as a Design Engineer Degree or HND in Mechanical Design or a related Engineering discipline A strong understanding of sheet metal manufacturing processes, materials and tolerances would be highly beneficial as some of the role will also involve process improvement. Proven experience of working with 3D CAD packages and generating 2D technical drawings (ideally a knowledge of SolidEdge).
