Job Description

Location: Newcastle Salary: £17.00+ per hour DOE Hours: 37.5 Job Type: Permanent We are looking for an experienced CNC Turner / Setter Programmer to join a well-established engineering business with a varied workload and plenty of opportunity to make a real impact. The main focus of the role will be operating and setting a Doosan 400 CNC turning centre with Fanuc controls.. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced machinist who enjoys working on one-off, small-batch and repeat components, rather than simply producing the same parts day in, day out. The Role You will be responsible for: * Setting and tooling CNC turning machinery * Programming and modifying programs using Fanuc controls * Producing one-off, small-batch and repeat components * Carrying out both rough and finish machining * Working with components requiring spherical/radiused machining * Selecting appropriate tooling and machining methods * Inspecting your own work and maintaining quality standards * Working independently and helping to identify opportunities to make better use of machine capacity * Supporting other machining operations when required The business also has Colchester lathes, used both conventionally and as basic CNC/teach machines, as well as XYZ VMC and ProTrak machinery. There is therefore plenty of scope for someone who is genuinely multi-skilled and interested in developing their role across different machines. About You We are looking for someone with solid practical experience in CNC turning who can confidently set, tool and programme a machine rather than simply operate from existing programs. You will ideally have: * Strong CNC turning experience * Fanuc control experience * Experience setting and tooling CNC lathes/turning centres * The ability to programme, edit and troubleshoot CNC programs * Experience working with one-offs and small batches * Good knowledge of cutting tools, speeds and feeds * A strong understanding of engineering drawings and tolerances * A quality-focused and methodical approach * The ability to work independently Multi-skilled experience would be a real advantage, particularly in CNC milling, VMCs, ProTrak or conventional/teach lathes, but it is not essential. Why Join? This is a great opportunity for an experienced machinist who wants variety, autonomy and the opportunity to make better use of modern and existing machinery. Rather than being tied to one repetitive production line, you will have the opportunity to work across a range of components and machines, with the potential to develop into a genuinely multi-skilled position. If you are an experienced CNC Turner who enjoys setting, programming and solving machining problems, we'd like to hear from you
