Site Service Engineer

Location: Forss, near Dounreay, Scotland

Travel: UK-wide with occasional overseas travel

Package: Competitive salary, company car or car allowance, benefits and ongoing development

We are recruiting for a Site Service Engineer to provide engineering support for specialist radiation monitoring, detection and waste assay equipment at a major nuclear site near Dounreay.

This is an excellent opportunity for an electrically or electronically biased engineer with experience in field service, instrumentation, calibration or regulated engineering environments.

The successful candidate will be primarily based at the customer’s site in Forss, with occasional travel to other locations throughout the UK and overseas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and support specialist and bespoke waste assay systems.
  • Inspect, calibrate, test and repair nuclear monitoring and radiation detection instrumentation.
  • Provide field service support, technical assistance and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Diagnose faults and complete repairs efficiently to minimise equipment downtime.
  • Support the installation and commissioning of specialist equipment.
  • Liaise with customer project teams regarding equipment locations, cable routing, transportation and integration into existing site systems.
  • Produce accurate service, maintenance and technical documentation.
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with relevant quality, safety and site procedures.
  • Travel to customer sites across the UK and occasionally overseas when required.

Skills and Experience

  • A recognised engineering apprenticeship is desirable.
  • An HNC or equivalent qualification in Electrical or Electronic Engineering would be advantageous.
  • Equivalent practical engineering experience will also be considered.
  • Experience maintaining, testing, calibrating or repairing electrical, electronic or instrumentation equipment.
  • Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of radiation measurement instrumentation or gamma spectroscopy would be advantageous, although full training can be provided.
  • Previous experience working on nuclear licensed sites such as Dounreay, Sellafield, EDF or NRS facilities would be beneficial.
  • Experience working within a highly regulated, safety-critical or controlled engineering environment.
  • Strong communication, organisation and customer-facing skills.
  • Able to work independently, use initiative and deliver high-quality work under pressure.
  • A high standard of written and spoken English.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the UK and occasionally overseas.

Security and Right to Work

Candidates must be eligible to obtain UK security clearance. Applicants should hold a British or eligible EU passport and be able to provide the required employment and residency history.

What’s on Offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Company car or car allowance.
  • Opportunity to work on specialist, high-profile engineering projects.
  • Technical training in radiation measurement and associated equipment.
  • Ongoing professional development and career progression.
  • Supportive and collaborative international working environment.
