Brighton College is seekingto appoint an Electrical Supervisoron a full-time, permanent basis.Reporting to: Deputy Head of Facilities Services (Maintenance)Main purpose of the role: To supervise and coordinate a team of electrical operatives to ensure the effective delivery of planned and reactive maintenance, minor works, and compliance tasks. The Electrical Supervisor will ensure work is carried out safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards, while also supporting the professional development of the team.Electrical Supervisor General Duties and Responsibilities:Supervision and LeadershipLead and manage day-to-day operations of a team of electrical operatives.Allocate tasks, set priorities, and monitor performance to ensure productivity and high standards of workmanship.Carry out regular team briefings, toolbox talks, and performance reviews along with the Deputy Head of Facilities Services.Promote a positive team culture focused on health and safety, service delivery, and continuous improvement.Lead initiatives to improve energy efficiency, sustainability, and asset lifecycle management.Operational ManagementPlan, schedule and oversee planned preventive maintenance (PPM), responsive repairs, and minor works.Work with internal departments and external contractors within electrical specific areas.Monitor and maintain stock levels of materials, tools, and equipment.Ensure accurate record-keeping for all completed jobs, inspections, and compliance checks.Health and Safety / ComplianceEnsure all operatives work in compliance with statutory and internal Health & Safety policies and procedures.Conduct on-site inspections and audits to verify adherence to safe systems of work, method statements, and risk assessments.Ensure the team follows regulatory requirements including Gas Safety, Electrical Testing, Water Hygiene (Legionella), and Asbestos Awareness.Quality ControlReview completed works to ensure compliance with specifications, standards.Identify and implement service improvements or efficiencies where appropriate.Manage defect rectification and complaints effectively.Additional informationMonitor and assess the quality of work delivered by external contractors across the estate. Identify and report deficiencies or non-compliance to the Maintenance Department Management and Project Managers, ensuring timely rectification and adherence to standards.Provide advanced fault-finding support for control systems, assisting colleagues across disciplines including gas boiler systems, emergency lighting, renewable energy systems, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.Monitor and analyse the performance of electrical systems and equipment to identify inefficiencies and support initiatives aimed at reducing energy consumption and operational costs.Contribute to budget planning, cost control, and value engineering initiatives.Electrical Supervisor Person SpecificationEssential criteria:NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a core trade (e.g., Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry).Significant experience in facilities maintenance or building services across multiple trades.Proven supervisory or team leadership experience.Act as the first point of escalation for technical queries and operational challenges.Strong knowledge of building regulations, health & safety legislation and compliance requirements.Experience in energy management or sustainability initiatives.Lead electrical incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.Develop and implement work schedules, resource plans, to optimize team performance.Excellent organisational and time-management skills.Proficient in using job management systems and basic IT tools.Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and schematicsDesirable criteria:IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent H&S training.Experience working in a facilities maintenance setting.Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.Asbestos Awareness, Legionella Awareness, or Electrical Safety training.Additional Information:Required to participate in an out-of-hours emergency call-out rota.A full UK driving licence is required.Hours of Work:Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 5.00pm with a 60-minute unpaid lunch break (40 hours per week).
