Senior Architect / Associate | Science, Research & Laboratory Projects

A highly respected Architectural practice is looking for a Chartered Architect with strong technical expertise to join its growing science and technology team. With an impressive portfolio of cutting-edge laboratory, research and innovation projects, this is an opportunity to work on some of the most complex and technically demanding buildings being delivered in the UK today.

The team is seeking experienced Architects with at least five years of post-qualification experience who are confident leading projects, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and delivering technically challenging schemes from concept through to completion. While experienced laboratory specialists are particularly sought after, Associate-level Architects with significant technical knowledge and science sector experience are also encouraged to apply.

This role offers the chance to take a key position within an established team, working directly with leading universities, researchers, developers and institutional clients to create world-class environments for scientific discovery and innovation.

The Role

Working within a collaborative and highly regarded technical team, you'll play a leading role in the design and delivery of laboratory and research facilities. From early-stage feasibility through to technical delivery and construction, you'll be involved in shaping projects that support some of the UK's most important scientific and technological advancements. You'll work closely with clients, specialist consultants and project teams while helping to drive design quality, technical excellence and successful project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of complex science, laboratory and research projects across multiple RIBA stages.
  • Manage project teams, consultants and stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered successfully.
  • Develop and oversee technical design packages and construction information.
  • Act as a key client contact, building strong relationships and supporting project growth.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and specialist consultants.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior team members.
  • Ensure projects meet programme, quality and commercial objectives.
  • Support design reviews, technical workshops and project delivery strategies.

Requirements

  • ARB-registered and Chartered Architect.
  • Minimum 5 years' post-qualification experience within a UK architectural practice.
  • Strong technical delivery experience and excellent construction knowledge.
  • Previous laboratory, science, research, higher education or complex technical project experience.
  • Experience leading project teams and coordinating multidisciplinary consultants.
  • Strong client-facing and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Revit and collaborative design workflows.
  • Associate-level candidates with significant laboratory experience are welcomed.

Benefits

  • Hybrid working and flexible working arrangements.
  • Competitive salary with regular reviews and clear progression opportunities.
  • 20 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Additional leave based on length of service.
  • Extended Christmas shutdown in addition to annual leave allowance.
  • Company pension scheme.
  • Private healthcare.
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity benefits.
  • Paid professional subscriptions including ARB and RIBA.
  • Season ticket loan and cycle-to-work scheme.
  • Comprehensive CPD programme, mentoring and professional development support.
  • A thriving social calendar, sports teams and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Modern studio environment with a genuinely collaborative culture.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a technically accomplished Architect looking to specialise further within the science and technology sector or take the next step into a senior leadership role. You'll join one of the UK's most respected design studios, work on pioneering laboratory and research facilities, and be part of a practice that genuinely invests in its people, their development and their long-term career progression.
