Job Description

About Us

Hoare Lea is a human‑centric and planet‑conscious engineering consultancy. We offer intelligent and sustainable solutions to complex design challenges for the built environment throughout the UK and further afield.

We provide a wide range of engineering and consultancy services, including acoustics, air quality, building services (MEP), fire, lighting, security and sustainability to name but a few. Together, our highly skilled teams use technical expertise and problem‑solving skills to bring buildings to life. We ensure that whatever the building, its design is outstanding, and its operations meet the needs of the communities it serves.

We are as committed to providing an environment where everyone can realise their unique potential. So, in joining Hoare Lea, you will experience a business that enriches your knowledge, supports your wellbeing, and welcomes your individuality. You’ll have the opportunity to participate in our 9‑day fortnight scheme, thriving community groups, varied social and networking events, and extensive professional and technical development schemes. We also offer an extensive benefits package, including private medical cover, an electric vehicle salary sacrifice scheme, stock options, and 25 days of annual leave (increasing with service), alongside flexible and hybrid working.

Whatever your ambitions or circumstances, our aim is to enable everyone to develop their knowledge, give their best, and enjoy what they do.

About The Role

We are looking for a talented Acoustic Engineer or Senior Acoustic Engineer with a focus on building acoustics to join our London team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to take the next step in their career, with increasing responsibility for project delivery, client engagement and design leadership.

You’ll become part of an award‑winning, collaborative group working across the UK on a wide range of projects, from healthcare and hotels to music venues, modern workplaces and other complex, design‑led environments.

As part of the team, your day‑to‑day work will be varied and engaging. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating within multi‑disciplinary project teams to develop innovative design solutions

  • Leading small to medium‑sized projects from inception through to completion and handover, with support from senior colleagues as needed.

  • Undertaking acoustic surveys and measurements in a wide range of environments using the best available tools and techniques

  • Carry out modelling, calculations and analysis using both in‑house developed programs and commercial software to inform design decisions

  • Liaising with clients, consultants and wider project teams, contributing confidently to project discussions and design development

  • Producing clear, practical advice through written reports, sketches, presentations, audio demos and interactive media

  • Contributing to a culture of creativity and innovation, helping to improve acoustic quality across projects

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A solid foundation in acoustic engineering, with experience delivering building acoustic projects across design stages.

  • A desire to develop your profile, take on greater responsibility, and grow into a more senior role.

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree related to Acoustic Engineering

  • A degree in another discipline will also be considered if complemented by an IOA Diploma

  • Excellent communication, analytical and organisational skills

  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

  • A friendly, proactive and positive approach

  • A flexible, enthusiastic mindset and a genuine interest in delivering high‑quality design solutions

Why join us

  • Work on high‑profile and technically challenging projects across multiple sectors

  • Be part of a supportive and collaborative team

  • Develop your skills with exposure to both technical and design‑led work

  • Help shape healthier, more valuable and more acoustically successful buildings

  • Opportunity to take on increasing responsibility and grow your career in a business that values both excellence and individuality.

Adjustments and accommodations

If there are adjustments or accommodations that we can put in place to help you participate and give your best at any stage of the recruitment process (whether relating to disability, neurodivergence or anything else) please let us know.
